I will be going through dos and don'ts of Eyelash Extension World, all lash techs tend to go black n blue in that face trying to educate our clients about aftercare.
Do: Avoid H2O
As a lash tech I have always explain to my clients to steer clean of the wet stuff at least 24 - 48 hours after your lash application. Hot damp conditions like hot sweaty exercising, yoga, sauna's or steamy showers can reactivate the glue causing your lash extensions to loosen, drop off, twist or clump together. A splash of cool water every now and again won't catastrophic for your lashes - I do recommend drying them as soon as you step out of the shower.
Don't: Touch Them!!
Definitely avoid touching, pulling, yanking and rubbing your eyelashes. If they start feeling irritated, sensitive or painful and you need them removed. Contact your lash tech to have them professional removed safely. If not you can damage your natural lashes causing baldness (No Thank You)
Do: Keep Your Lashes In Shape
Gently combing them with a spooly (Mascara Brush/Wand) every morning you will keep your gorgeous lashes in a beautiful fan shape. Don't over brush them as you can weaken the glue bonds and cause lash extension loss.
Don't: Slather on Facial Oils, Facial Moisturizer and Conditioners
Conditioners, Facial Moisturizers and Facial Oils will gradually loosen the glue bond of the eyelash extension and causes your eyelash extensions to prematurely fall out. When applying your moisturizer avoid the eye area completely. If you must attack those dark circles, dab your eye cream on with your ring finger for a more precise application. In the shower, wash your hair by tilting your head back to avoid any product washing into your lash line. Also avoid washing your hair prior to your appointment, conditioner will leave a film on your natural eyelashes and adhesive will not adhere properly.
Don't: Use Mascara
No matter how many times myself and fellow lash techs have advised Before,The Day of Your Appointment or After, DO NOT USE MASCARA!! This is an absolute NO - NO!! Throw out your mascara bottles ladies you will no longer need them when you embrace full, flirtatious lashes. Here is the reasoning behind Mascara - Waterproof mascara or any type of oil based mascara will dissolve the bonding agent and shorten the life of your eyelash extensions. Also, the brush can potentially pull on your eyelash extensions and cause them to be damaged, loosened, or removed.
Do: 2 to 3 week infills
To keep your lashes looking nicely shaped and full, 2 to 3 week infills are highly recommended. Your lash extensions will gradually fall out over time, yes that's right eyelash extensions are not permanent but don't panic this is completely normal.
